2007 NSW Election Candidates Survey

Welcome, the MCCofNSW is attempting to provide you with information to assist you as a motorcyclist to make a more informed choice on election day.

In 2006, we sent surveys to all candidates and presented responses

Candidates were asked to:-

  1. answer questions on Tolls, E-tags, Parking, Road Safety and transport Plans and were provided with background briefing papers
  2. explain in less than 75 words why motorcyclists should vote for them.
  3. provide links to relevant documents such as, Transport Strategies, Road Safety Strategies
  • Tolls
Because cars are smaller and lighter than trucks they are charged less to use motorways. Motorcycles are smaller and lighter than cars yet they pay the same toll as cars.

Motorcycle toll charge needs to be adjusted to one-quarter the rate of cars.

Motorcycle riders are happy to pay THE CORRECT RATE OF TOLL,

Motorcycles were forgotten in Transporrt plans for Private toll roads.

WHY should motorcycle riders pay for this failure in transport planning by successive Labour governments?

  • E-tags
More and more tollways and tunnels are becoming cashless. Yet e-tags are not designed for use on motorcycles. Attempts to design a safe motorcycle e-tag have stalled.

Until an appropriate e-tag is available, motorcycles should be:-

  1. Banned from tollways
  2. Not charged an administrative fees
  3. Free to use tollways as they are in Melbourne
  • Motorcycle Safety
The last and only Staysafe Inquiry into motorcycle safety was in 1984. Much has changed since then.

  • Transport Plans
Motorcycles have the advantage of reducing congestion and pollution, yet they are consistently ignored in transport plans.
